WHAT IS SUMMER RISE?
Summer RISE is an initiative led by the Montgomery County Public Schools’ (MCPS) Department of Partnerships in collaboration with businesses, government agencies, higher education institutions, and nonprofit organizations. The program is for rising MCPS juniors and seniors to participate in a career-based learning opportunity during the summer. Students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning opportunities related to their field of interest.
Senior, Arpa Gomes, shares her experiences with Summer RISE:
Over the summer, I was given the opportunity to work with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Office of Digital Transformation through Summer Rise for 5 weeks. I was actually PAID for my experience. In addition to getting paid, I was able to earn a ton of industry certifications, build networks, and learned in depth about my career options. During my 5 weeks, my team was able to win the Emergency App Building Competition, which I graphic designed. We also competed in and won the Amazon Deepracer AI Competition at the FDA. After seeing my capabilities and curiosity to learn and explore more, my mentors selected me to speak at the Closing Ceremony in front of all the interns, FDA employees and the Chief Officer. Through my connections and growth during Summer RISE, I applied for and was selected to work as a graphic designer out of the whole Montgomery County which is a really proud moment for me!
I would highly recommend the Summer RISE program to all rising juniors and seniors.
