Registration for next year begins

Though this school year is still not over yet students are already thinking about next year.

The school administration held meetings with each grade leve last week to discuss the new 2014-2015 class registration. Last week in the auditorium on Friday counselors and students met to discuss new classes and the registration process. After meeting with their counselors students were sent to their homeroom to get their registration form which is due this Wednesday.

But don’t worry, the fellow Springbrook students, teachers, and counselors have some advice for you when choosing new classes.

When it comes to picking your classes Springbrook High School student Dominique Djebalo said to never “take classes that are too hard for you” and to remember not to “ take classes just because of your friends”.

Sophomore Kevin Goodwin said that doing “some research on the classes you’re interested in” and finding “out who teaches it, who takes it, what they do and whether or not they like it” is necessary if you don’t want to be one of the many students waiting in line to get their class schedule changed.

Don’t be threatened by the fancy names. Honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and International Baccalaureate (IB) might seem intimidating but really all it is a new angle on what you’re learning now. These classes might have a larger work load but the payoff is all worth it.

“I love both programs equally, both of them offer different benefits,” AP Spanish teacher Carol Middlebrook said when talking about the difference between AP and IB.

If you feel like you don’t know what Springbrook has to offer, you’re in luck because our high school has a lot of opportunities to learn about available classes. In an effort to provide information about classes, administration had an elective fair during lunch on February 4 in the Springbrook lobby. They had information on some interesting classes Springbrook has to offer such as child development, visual arts, food trends, and photography.

When choosing classes you might want to keep in mind of what possible careers you might want to follow, if you want to be a doctor you might want to take Anatomy and if you want to be a newspaper editor you might want to take Journalism.

Before choosing your classes you will want to meet with your counselor to make sure there aren’t any credits required that you might want to sign up for so that you are prepared for graduation.

Most experienced Springbrook students feel that registration is not a big deal so take a deep breath and get ready to choose your classes for next year!
