As the school year continues, many seniors are beginning to feel the effects of what is commonly known as senioritis. For some students, it has become harder to stay motivated, keep up with assignments, and maintain good attendance as graduation gets closer.
Many seniors are simply tired. After working hard throughout the past three years, some are struggling to keep that same level of perseverance during their final months of high school. Teachers, especially in English classes, have noticed that senior attendance has started to decline, raising concerns about how senioritis is affecting academic performance.
This raises an important question: How can seniors overcome senioritis, and can schools do more to help? While schools may not always directly address senioritis, they do offer reminders and support through senior events and activities. For example, events like the Grade 12 Town Hall remind students that the finish line is near and encourage them to stay focused as graduation approaches.
As seniors, it is important to remember to live in the moment and not let stress or burnout take over. Although the end of high school may feel close, there is still important work to be done. After coming this far, students should not allow themselves to lose momentum now.
The final stretch of senior year can feel overwhelming, uncertain, and exhausting at times. Still, it is a challenge seniors can overcome with determination, courage, and support. In the end, all of the hard work will be worth it.
