Springbrook students attend countywide event focused on rights, justice, and advocacy for women and girls
On Saturday, March 7, Springbrook High School students participated in the 4th Annual Latina Legacy Program, an empowering event centered on this year’s theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. For all women and girls.”
The program brought together students from across the county for a day filled with culture, learning, and inspiration. Attendees enjoyed vibrant cultural performances that celebrated heritage and identity, setting the tone for a meaningful and engaging experience.
Throughout the day, students explored a variety of workshops designed to equip them with practical skills and knowledge for their futures. Sessions focused on topics such as entrepreneurship, public speaking, healthcare career pathways, overcoming microaggressions, and learning how to advocate for personal space and individual rights.
“I liked how the workshops gave us real-life advice we can actually use,” one student shared. “It made me feel more confident about speaking up for myself.”
In addition to the workshops, students had the opportunity to learn about programs and resources offered at Montgomery College, helping them begin to envision their next steps beyond high school.
A highlight of the event was a powerful panel discussion featuring accomplished and inspiring women leaders, including Montgomery County Council President Natalie Fani-Gonzalez, attorney and advocate Rita Montoya, and businesswoman Ariana Amparan. Each speaker shared personal experiences and words of encouragement, motivating students to pursue their goals and advocate for change in their communities.
“The panel was really inspiring,” another student said. “It showed me that there are so many paths to success and that our voices matter.”
The Latina Legacy Program continues to provide a space for young women to connect, grow, and feel empowered. For Springbrook students, the experience was not only educational but also uplifting—leaving them motivated to take action and make a difference.
