Poms’ season blows Springbrook Blue Devils away
Poms season started with a big bang two weeks ago. Last year’s coach, Melissa Rooney, will be returning as poms coach and is eager to attack this season head on.
“Poms is a one season sport. We do not hold winter tryouts. Our season continues until mid-March, and the big county competition will be on February 14th, 2015 at Richard Montgomery High School at 9 am,” Rooney said.
Last year poms had an impressive record.
“Jania Washington received the 3rd place Captains Award at the County Competition [last year],” Rooney said.
Although some students graduated from poms, Rooney is hoping that the newcomers have just as much success.
“I have several new members this year since I graduated 7 members of the squad last season. I’m excited to see their skills develop between now and the competition,” Rooney said.
Senior Shannon Dunne will be returning this year and Rooney and the team are thrilled to have her back.
“My captain this year is Shannon Dunne. She will be choreographing some routines this season,” Rooney said.
This season brings stiff competition from other MCPS schools.
“We have a lot of talent on the squad and I’m hoping we will place top 3 at the county competition (2/14/15 @ RM) or at an invitational this season,” Rooney said.
Look for the poms squad to have another impressive season this year as it has had in previous years.
