Springbrook High School students got a closer look at a high demand career path during a recent visit from Christa Tichy, a female master electrician who spoke with students about what it takes to succeed in the electrical industry.
Tichy’s presentation focused on practical steps students can take if they are interested in becoming an electrician. She explained entry level opportunities, apprenticeships, and trade pathways, along with how electricians can grow in the field over time. Students also learned that career advancement often comes with increased responsibility and higher earning potential.
One of the most memorable parts of the presentation was hearing Tichy’s personal journey. As a woman in a field where women are still underrepresented, she encouraged students to stay confident, work hard, and take pride in skilled trades. She also explained that success in electrical work requires both technical training and strong workplace habits. She highlighted the importance of communication, teamwork, professionalism, and reliability, along with hands on skills like safety practices and learning the tools of the trade.
Tichy also emphasized the importance of earning a high school diploma and strengthening math skills. She said both can make a major difference for students who want to pursue technical careers. Her message connected with students, who stayed engaged throughout the session and asked thoughtful questions about next steps, training programs, and what apprenticeships are really like.
Springbrook’s College Career Center shared appreciation for Tichy’s visit and the impact it had on students. Ms. Tammy Patterson, Springbrook’s College Career Navigator, thanked Tichy for providing valuable information about apprenticeships and for serving as a role model for students who are exploring future careers.
After the presentation, Tichy shared that she enjoyed meeting with Springbrook students and noticed strong interest in the electrical industry. She also discussed the possibility of starting an after school Electrical Career Readiness Pathway program at Springbrook in Fall 2026. A meeting is expected to be scheduled soon to review the possibilities and next steps.
As students continue thinking about plans after graduation, visits like this one highlight that there are many pathways to success. For students who enjoy hands on learning, problem solving, and building a strong future, the skilled trades can be an exciting and rewarding option.
