New Year, New Leaders: Meet Springbrook’s Administrators
The 2025 school year is underway, and Springbrook is starting strong with a mix of new and returning administrators. From the hallways to athletic games, they are already bringing energy and support to the Blue Devil community.
Ms. Johnson: Ready to Connect
Springbrook welcomes Ms. Johnson, one of our new administrators. She chose MCPS because of its strong academics and diverse student body. After visiting The Brook, she knew it was the right fit.
Starting at a new school can feel overwhelming, but Ms. Johnson says the staff has made her transition smooth. “The staff here has welcomed me warmly. I am so glad that I was chosen to be part of this community.”
Her top priority this year is building relationships with students. She wants everyone to know she is not just here to enforce rules. She is here to listen, support, and help students succeed. You will often find her in the Snack Shack during lunch, in the hallways between classes, or cheering at sports events.
Students are already noticing her efforts. “Ms. Johnson makes an effort to talk to us in the hallways, and that really makes a difference,” said junior Aaliyah M. JV football player Yohanna S. added, “When she came to our first football game, it hyped us up. Knowing an administrator is out there cheering for us makes you want to work even harder.”
Mrs. Brown: Back in Action
Springbrook is also welcoming back Mrs. Brown, who is now serving as assistant principal for the Class of 2027. While this role is new, she is no stranger to Springbrook. She has worked here in several positions, most recently as internship coordinator. She describes her return to administration as “icing on the cake.”
After taking time off to focus on her family, Mrs. Brown is excited to return. This year, her goals include motivating students to take risks, join clubs, and stay engaged as juniors prepare for the SAT and plan for life after high school.
She describes her leadership style as fair, consistent, and caring. “I follow policies, but I always lead with my heart. Students should know that I truly care.”
Many students are glad to see her back in a leadership role. “Mrs. Brown has always supported me,” one student said. “She encourages you to do your best and makes sure you know she is there for you.” Student leaders agree. “She has been encouraging students to join activities since day one,” said Leila S., president of a student club. “It is nice to have an assistant principal who values involvement because it makes our school feel more connected.”
Ms. Martindill: A Familiar Face Returns
Springbrook is also welcoming back Ms. Martindill as an associate principal. Many students and staff remember her from her years of teaching and leadership at The Brook, and she is excited to continue supporting academics and student life.
With her experience and strong knowledge of the community, she is ready to step right back in. “She knows the school and the community really well,” one senior said. “I think it is going to be good for us to have someone with her experience back on the team.”
Looking Ahead
With Ms. Johnson bringing fresh energy, Mrs. Brown returning to leadership, and Ms. Martindill rejoining the Blue Devil family, this school year looks promising for growth, connection, and school spirit. These administrators are ready to support students, encourage involvement, and make Springbrook a place where everyone feels welcome.
