Not everyone possesses the determination to wake up at 4 a.m. for Swim and Dive practice. Despite the early mornings, our Swim and Dive team strives to be the best. We sat down with Tiffany Egwim and Desi Iscoa to delve into their journeys on the Swim and Dive team.
Tiffany, aged 15, has been swimming for Springbrook for two years.
For Tiffany, waking up early for practice is second nature because of her commitment to the club. Motivated by the students she coaches during practices, she finds enjoyment in the breakfast provided after each session.
“I take pleasure in witnessing my own progress and that of others around me,” she shares. “Being an African American in the water, which is uncommon, adds to my enjoyment. I also relish the challenge of competing and pushing myself in different events.”
Tiffany leverages her strengths and focuses on her specialties to continually improve.
Reflecting on last year’s regionals or divisionals, she recalls, “It was so much fun. We brought our own props to St. Mary’s, deciding who goes first. It was a truly enjoyable experience, and I cherished every moment.”
Desi, also 15 and a sophomore, has been swimming for Springbrook for two years, starting her aquatic journey at the age of 4.
“I genuinely want to improve and invest my time in a sport to enhance myself both mentally and physically,” Desi expresses.
She finds joy in the camaraderie of friends and the intriguing technical aspects of the sport. Desi’s focus is on achieving personal best times rather than record-breaking feats, prioritizing self-improvement over impressing others.
Recalling the ride back from regionals, Desi describes it as a significant team bonding experience, feeling a true sense of belonging to the team.
