As we celebrated National Book Month in October, we also welcomed a new Media Center Assistant to our Springbrook community. Allow me to introduce Ms. Jackeline Hernandez to The Brook. Although she is new to the staff, Ms. Hernandez is not new to Springbrook. As a Springbrook alumna, Ms. Hernandez is dedicated to creating a safe place for all students to grow and learn. I had an opportunity to sit down with Ms. Hernandez to learn more about her.
What brought you back to Springbrook?
“Joining the MCPS team was always a general goal of mine,” she replied, “however, when the opportunity came up to join the NEC, I was quick to apply to Springbrook, also to make my mom happy, an alumna from ’91.”
How long have you been an assistant for the Media Center?
“This is my first year,” she responded. “I used to be a career coach for a young adult program, so being familiar in this space wasn’t new, but being here at the MC is a dream, and I love it.”
What helped you come this far?
Graduating as a graphic designer,” she explained, “along with my experience in helping young adults, this will fulfill my goal to be a Media Specialist.”
How did you know you wanted this career?
“Working closely in the counseling office during high school helped me strive more for my peers and the younger ones that came after my class (’17),” she replied. “That awakened something in me to work hard to maintain a safe space for all.”
The Springbrook Media Center is an essential space in our school. It serves as a place for students to access educational resources, books, subscription databases, and a safe and quiet space. Most people do not know that the Media Center is also available for students who need a place to pray. Whether you’re looking for a place to cozy up and read a book or need guidance with a research project, our Media Center is a place for you.
