Gearing up for the PSATs

Gearing up for the PSATs

Springbrook will host the nationwide PSAT Day on Wednesday, October 11th.  All juniors and sophomores have been registered for PSAT Day and are expected to be present.  MCPS has paid the registration fee for all sophomores and Springbrook will cover the fees for all juniors.

Benefits of the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test)
With the PSAT/NMSQT®, you can:

  • Understand your skills and knowledge and which areas to focus on improving.
  • Measure academic progress, and track your improvement over time.
  • Set a target score, and prepare for the digital SAT®.
  • Explore career insights, a sample of in-demand careers specific to your state.
  • Receive guidance about planning and paying for college.
  • Get AP® course recommendations.
  • Have an opportunity to enter the National Merit® Scholarship Program.
  • Access over $300 million in scholarship opportunities.

All juniors and sophomores need to create an account on CollegeBoard.com and use the digital practice tests to prepare.  Since the PSAT will be digital, all students need to bring their MCPS charged chromebooks.  *You may not use your personal device*

Study Tips:

  • Make a study plan.

Know when you’re taking the PSAT/NMSQT and build a study plan to make the most of your time before the test. Set aside specific times to practice, watch instructional videos, and focus on the areas you need to work on. Set concrete, manageable goals.

  • Take a practice digital exam.

Download Bluebook and set aside a couple of hours to take the PSAT/NMSQT practice test.  *Bluebook has been downloaded on all MCPS devices.

  • Set concrete goals to level up your skills.

The best goals are specific, concrete, and manageable. Official Digital SAT Prep on Khan Academy will tailor practice for you, identifying specific goals, recommending an amount of time to practice, and giving you practice questions with full explanations.

Visit the PSAT website for more details.  To access all practice test materials, you must create a CollegeBoard.
