Springbrook’s MESA Team, which stands for Mathematics, Engineering, Science and Achievement, represented the school at the regional competition on March 5, 2026, held at Thomas Edison High School of Technology. Students competed in multiple engineering challenges and earned recognition for their innovation and hard work.
Led by Mr. Knocke, IB Coordinator, Springbrook students submitted projects in several categories, including a Planetary Lander model, The HeatSeek for the Wearable Technology Challenge, and SafeStride for the National Engineering Design Challenge (NEDC).
The HeatSeek is a functional wearable device designed to alert coaches when an athlete is overheating. SafeStride is a working device that warns pedestrians about oncoming traffic before crossing a road. Both projects focused on solving real-world problems through engineering and design.
Springbrook’s Planetary Lander team, made up of Loic Nono Tabou (11th grade), Kunghang Rai (9th grade), and Elezar Corporal (9th grade), earned third place at the regional competition.
Springbrook’s NEDC team, consisting of Ydidiya Amare (11th grade), Valarie Castro (11th grade), and Kelsey Diep (11th grade), also earned third place at regionals.
The team’s success reflects the creativity, collaboration, and dedication of Springbrook students. Their projects not only demonstrated strong STEM skills, but also showed how innovation can be used to address everyday challenges.
Congratulations to all of the students who competed and proudly represented Springbrook at the regional level.
