On Thursday, February 5, Springbrook’s Asian Student Union partnered with Blake High School and Paint Branch High School to host the NEC Lunar New Year Festival. Lunar New Year is an important holiday across many Asian cultures, marking the start of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It is widely celebrated in countries throughout East, Southeast, and South Asia.
During the festival, students proudly wore traditional clothing and cultural costumes, decorated the halls of Blake High School, and performed for hundreds of attendees. Food was available throughout the event, and boba tea was also sold for five dollars.
Because Lunar New Year holds such a meaningful place in our cultures, events like this are especially important to the Asian community. They provide an opportunity to celebrate our heritage, honor where we come from, and share who we are with others.
