Springbrook High School’s girls indoor track and field team made school history last night by winning the program’s first ever MCPS Indoor Track and Field County Championship. The Lady Devils delivered a huge night of performances across sprints, relays, and jumps to secure the title and bring home the county trophy.
The team was led by junior Lola Ayoku, who had an unforgettable championship meet. Ayoku earned six gold medals, winning the High Jump, Long Jump, Triple Jump, and 55m Hurdles, plus helping power two relay victories. She ran on the 4x200m Relay with Minda Coulibaly, Aniyah Harris, and Kori Danso, and she also helped win the 4x400m Relay with Minda Coulibaly, Kori Danso, and Anji Akanni.
Because of her standout performance, Ayoku was named the first ever MVP of the MCPS Indoor Track and Field County Championship, adding another milestone to a historic night for Springbrook athletics.
Springbrook’s boys team also had a strong showing, finishing third overall behind Northwest and Blair High Schools. A major highlight came from Etornam Agbonyitor, who won the 300m Dash and the Triple Jump. Agbonyitor was also recognized with the Boys MVP award.
With a county championship for the girls and a podium finish for the boys, Springbrook indoor track proved it is a force in MCPS. Congratulations to the Lady Devils, the boys team, and the entire coaching staff on an incredible night for Blue Devil sports.
