Teaching is rewarding, but it can also be stressful, exhausting, and emotionally heavy. At Springbrook, many teachers are finding ways to take care of themselves while still showing up for students every day. Lately, staff members have been boosting morale by leaning into self care and building community in simple, real ways.
Some teachers have been using counseling supports, including connecting with Clair for help managing stress and staying balanced. Others have been moving their bodies through staff wellness options like the Walk and Talk Group and Yoga for Teachers. These activities give teachers a chance to breathe, reset, and connect with coworkers outside of the usual school routine.
Springbrook resource teacher Maria Peterson also shared her wellness journey and how it has changed her life. Over the past year and a half, she has lost more than 65 pounds through consistent exercise, calorie counting, and maybe a little tirzepatide. Now, she says her focus is on maintaining her current weight and building habits she can sustain long term.
That is why self care matters. It is not just about spa days or vacations. It can be as simple as talking to someone, taking a walk, stretching after work, going to yoga, or making time to reset mentally. When teachers take care of themselves, they are more focused, more patient, and better able to support students.
Springbrook’s wellness efforts are a reminder that community is not only built in classrooms. It is also built when adults support each other. Whether it is counseling, exercising, or just sharing a laugh, teachers are proving that taking care of yourself is part of being strong.
