What is Eco MoCo?

What is Eco MoCo?

Eco MoCo is a student-led environmental organization striving to make Montgomery County more environmentally friendly while creating a platform that fosters leadership. It is also recognized as a national 501(c)(3) organization with its headquarters located in Montgomery County, Maryland. The Eco MoCo Headquarters Executive Board comprises six departments: Chief of Staff, Communications, Environmental Education, Finance, Policy, and Public Relations. Eco MoCo extends beyond Maryland, with branches established all over the country.

Accomplishments

Eco MoCo organized its inaugural event at Montgomery Parks LCWKOF, featuring recycled art tables where children learned how to transform trash into treasure. In August 2022, Eco MoCo hosted a Litter Free Parks Event, conducting a trash pick-up at Black Hill Regional Park. On a state level, Eco MoCo achieved a significant milestone by unanimously passing Bill 13-22, requiring the implementation of all-electric building standards for new constructions by December 31, 2026. To achieve this, they orchestrated a writing campaign to encourage County council members to pass Bill 13-22. This accomplishment has had a profound impact on Montgomery County’s environment. Since then, Eco MoCo has conducted informative workshops addressing environmental issues at the local, state, and national levels.
