We went on this awesome trip to the US Capitol to learn all about its cool dome and the statues inside. The Capitol’s been through a lot—built, burned down, rebuilt, made bigger, and fixed up. It’s huge, with more than 600 rooms and three main dome levels that our guide showed us.
First stop was the Crypt on the first floor, which is like the base of the dome. There’s this place called the Hall of Columns, made from either sandstone or marble—it’s pretty grand. Then, we headed to the Rotunda on the second level. There were eight paintings on the walls and statues of important people and events in our country’s history. One of them was Martin Luther King Jr., who fought for civil rights. The third level is the National Statuary Hall. The ceiling might show a rose covered in gold leaf. And there’s also the speaker’s rostrum on the floor.
Honestly, this trip was so much fun and super educational. Learning history in class is one thing, but actually seeing it in real life is way cooler.
