Letter to the Editor: School spirit

Dear Springbrook Editor,

As a Freshman, There’s not much I know about high school in general, But as someone who’s been to every high school open house in the NEC and  been in MCPS schools for 10 years, I’m pretty sure I know what school spirit is. It was a little ironic when I asked my older friends if they really enjoyed it here, some said it was amazing, that the school was full of life and never had a day that wasn’t interesting in some way or another. Although my experience has been pretty chill so far, I think it was the black-out football game when I really realized how lacking we really are. It seemed as if even though some students came marching through the building dressed in all black and chanting, there were only so many people wearing black at the game. It was almost as if everyone had just forgotten. Even while watching the game, not a lot of cheers were heard throughout the game. I was confused, and a little sad. I looked at myself decked out with black war stripes smudged lazily across my face, and then looked at everyone else. Logically, that’s what school spirit is all about. Making it known you’re proud and excited about it? Obviously we don’t just want to show school spirit, we want to overthrow all other schools, and make it known we really are the best. Not just for football either! There are so many good cheers and opportunities we have to make ourselves known, that we miss. When the stands are full that’s when we really look complete. Everyone has something to cheer for.  Be loud.

SPRINGBROOK YOU KNOW.

Sincerely,

A proud Springbrook student.
