Is Shadowhunters season 2 worth the chatter?
Shadowhunters (also known as Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments) is a mythical TV show based off the novel, The Mortal Instruments, by Cassandra Clare. This TV show is the second adaptation of the novel after its first movie adaptation in 2013 called The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. It was based off of the first novel of The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare while the TV show focuses on the entire novel series.
This show launched the first episode of their second season, ‘This Guilty Blood’, last Monday, Jan. 2. It runs on Freeform (formally known as ABC Family) at 8/7c. It is an action packed fantasy show that focuses on the main protagonist Clary Fray (Katherine McNamara), her Shadowhunter friends, and her family.
The first season finale leaves the audience hanging with the revelation of Jace and Clary being siblings and that they share the same father. Their father happens to be the main antagonist, Valentine Morgenstern (Alan van Sprang). Shortly afterwards, Jace Wayland (Dominic Sherwood) abandons his fellow Shadowhunter friends and joins the dark side with their father.
The second season starts off with Clary’s struggle to convince Jace that he has made a huge mistake. Her sudden appearance on Valentine’s ship tests Jace’s loyalty to Valentine. Despite Jace’s position, ultimately, he is loyal to Clary.
The highlight of this season includes whether or not Jace and Clary are siblings, if Alec is going to get married, and what Valentine will do next with his army of new Shadowhunters. This season lives up to a suspenseful season opening, so make sure you stay tuned for more twists that are to come. If you’re looking for action, suspense, and romance then this season is for you.
Overall, I give this show a rating of 3 out of 5 stars because of the constant content added to the plot that keeps me on the edge of my seat but the tedious pace causes it to lose its 2 stars.
