The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) is dropping their tagline used for the past 3 years to market the Thursday night line up of shows. Their tagline was referred to as #TGIT (Thank God It’s Thursday) and the line up was Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How To Get Away With Murder. When ABC revealed its new schedule for the fall 2016 TV season, surprisingly Scandal was missing from the line-up and was replaced by the new legal drama series Conviction taking its time slot in between Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder.

The ABC President, Channing Dungey, told TVLine that because the #TGIT marketing strategy is associated with Scandal, “It did feel like it would make more sense to wait to bring #TGIT back,” since Scandal returns to ABC in January 2017. Season six of Scandal was pushed to midseason because the main character, Kerry Washington is pregnant with her second child. The show tried hiding the bump during the end of the 5th season, but decided to extend the premiere of the 6th season since the writers decided not to write her pregnancy into the Scandal plot.

Although Scandal isn’t coming out until January, eight episodes of How to Get Away With Murder and Grey’s Anatomy have aired so far. The last couple episodes of How to Get Away With Murder centers around Annalise creating a pro-bono law clinic as a class with the students being defence attorneys. Frank has also gone missing with Annalise and Nate trying to find him, while the murder of Wallace Mahoney is still under investigation. The season’s main mystery so far is the cause of a fire that burns down Annalise’s house and which character died from the fire.

On Grey’s Anatomy there are many things going on as usual. First, Alex Karev has been charged for assaulting Andrew DeLuca, who suffered a serious eye injury from the attack. Alex has yet to go on trial and could be looking at 15 years in prison. Also, another love triangle has formed between Meredith, her half sister Maggie, and the new doctor Riggs. Lastly, April moved in with Avery and although they are divorced, their relationship seems like it might reform with the help of their newborn baby.

Don’t worry Scandal fans, #TGIT is on it’s way in January.
