United States falls to Argentina 4-0

After coming off a good win against Ecuador last week. The United States came into this game against Argentina as the “underdogs” hoping to beat the top team in the Copa America.

Argentina came into Houston, Texas and beat the United States 4-0 and they showed the world why they’re the top team in the tournament.

The United States team wasn’t complete due to players like Bobby Wood, Jermaine Jones and Alejandro Bedoya receiving their limit on yellow cards. So, Jurgen Klinsmann had to make changes such as, Graham Zusi, Kyle Beckerman, and Chris Wondolowski.

It was a tough game for the US, they weren’t playing the way we’ve seen in the last few matches. In the first half the game, Argentina was playing a very attacking playing style. Ezequiel Lavezzi scored in the third minute of the game off of a chipped header over American keeper Brad Guzan.

Argentina’s playing style made the United States change from attacking to defensive throughout the game. Lionel Messi was the key player heading into this game, and he showed why. Messi scored a perfect free kick in the 32nd minute, making him the all-Time scoring leader for Argentina in international soccer.
Despite Argentina having success, the US players weren’t following the game plan established by coach Jurgen Klinsmann. They kept losing the ball in the middle of the field in their half which allowed Argentina to go on a counter attack and eventually to score on Guzan. This happened in the 86th minute because Steven Birnbaum lost the ball in the middle of the field. Messi found the ball and passed it to Gonzalo Higuaín, leading to the final goal of the contest.

The United States didn’t have the best game in the semi finals, but they did have an overall good performance in the Copa America. Since they lost in the semis, they will have to go against either Colombia or Chile in the third-place match.
