Washington Redskins struggle in NFC East
Redskins fans thought that with the appointment of Jay Gruden as head coach, the presence of a healthy Robert Griffin III and the signing of Desean Jackson from the Philadelphia Eagles, this would be their year. But fans were sadly mistaken. The team is playing so poorly that only the most avid fans still want to watch the Redskins.
During preseason, the Redskins were 28th overall in the NFL power ranking. But Washington fans kept their heads held high and were still very optimistic about the upcoming season.
Last year the Redskins had a horrific record of 3-12, the worst record the team has had since 1994. Currently, the Redskins are 1-4 in the cellar of the NFC East. On October 7, they lost a battle against national champions Seattle Seahawks with a final score of 27-17. During this game, Seattle’s wide receiver, Percy Harvin, had three touchdowns called back due to penalties, but Washington was still not able to pull off a win.
A series of injuries has hindered the Redskins’ performance, and is one of the major reasons for their poor performance. In the second week, Robert Griffin III left a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a left ankle injury and isn’t expected to be back until week eight in the game against the Dallas Cowboys. Also injured in week two was wide receiver Desean Jackson who left the game with a shoulder injury. In addition to Griffin and Jackson, during Monday night’s game there were five starters with injuries. Fortunately, they were able to return later in the game.
When asked what people think about the Redskins’ future, the responses ranged from “It is still really early in the season and there is still room to grow,” to “The season is over, the quarterback is injured and the second string isn’t much better.”
In a school survey, only one in ten people believed the Redskins would still have a good season. What do you think? Are you still hoping the Redskins will turn it around? Personally, I don’t see much hope this season. I can only look forward to the future and hope the Redskins can turn it around.
