A new year means a new you! As the school year begins, it’s the perfect time to explore new interests and get involved by joining a club. Springbrook offers many academic, athletic, and arts extracurriculars, so there’s something for everyone. For freshmen and sophomores, clubs are a great way to find friends and discover what you like. For juniors and seniors, clubs help build your resume for college, show commitment, and help you figure out what you want to study.
But sometimes the club you want doesn’t exist or it stopped meeting. That’s where this club creation guide comes in. It will help you start a club based on your interests, even if the process feels a little overwhelming at first.
Step 1: Identify your purpose and a sponsor
Decide what your club is about and why it should exist. You will need a clear purpose so the principal can approve it. Make a list of possible staff sponsors. Don’t ask just one teacher. If the first person says no, you should already have other names ready. This will save you time because starting a club can take a little while.
Step 2: Meet with your sponsor
Talk with your sponsor about the club’s mission and make sure it’s school-appropriate. Come up with a few activities your club will do. Decide on possible meeting days and times that work for both of you. Start drafting an email to the principal that explains your club’s vision, mission, and how it will help students and the school community.
Step 3: Check student interest
You must have at least three students who are interested in joining. This is a good time to fine-tune your club plan and decide what you will do during meetings throughout the year.
Step 4: Email the principal (Ms. Valentine)
Send a formal email that includes:
-
the club name and purpose
-
your sponsor’s name
-
meeting day/time
-
a short vision/mission paragraph
-
how the club will benefit students and the Springbrook community
Step 5: Complete the club contract
After the principal approves your club, your staff sponsor will give you the club contract link. Fill it out to finish the club start-up process.
Starting a club can take time, but it is worth it. Clubs make high school more fun, help you meet people, and let you create a space for something you care about. And at Springbrook, everyone is encouraged to get involved.
