So what’s going to change?
On July 14, 2025, President Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Act, a Law that is guaranteed to change the student loan System. Though it isn’t very likely to affect current college students, it can instead affect high school students because they’ll be the ones to fully experience this change.
What experts say
Ms. Patterson, Springbrook’s College & Career Information Coordinator, believes that it is important for students, especially the class of 2026, to think ahead.
“In the past, students heading to college had it easier thanks to repayment plans,” Ms. Patterson explained. “ With this system that the country will proceed with, it will be necessary for students and their families to plan more early: Don’t wait until senior year to think about how to pay for college. Start looking at scholarships, savings and FAFSA ASAP.”
She also said that this change might have students feel the need to consider in state schools or community colleges like MC.
“This isn’t a good change but students shouldn’t be scared from going to college,” she said. “ It really just means that financial planning is going to be very important”
What this means
Seniors: Assuming that the majority of guys are applying to colleges this year, please talk to your counselors about scholarships
Everyone: Students who still haven’t graduated and are still working their way towards that diploma, all of you guys will graduate into a new system, so please start saving money and plan ahead. Don’t wait!
It isn’t guaranteed that things like this will come out easy for all students, but what the school system can encourage is to plan smart and plan smart.
