Springbrook High School relaunched its RecZone program on Wednesday, Sept. 24, opening the cafeteria after school as a hub for connection, creativity, and low-pressure fun. Running Tuesdays through Thursdays until 4:30 p.m., RecZone offers a rotating mix of activities designed to give students a safe place to unwind, try something new, and build community.
What’s on the menu
This year’s lineup features chess, table tennis, and arts & crafts, along with homework help for anyone looking to tackle assignments before heading home. Students can also earn SSL hours through select activities and service-oriented projects advertised on site. Whether you’re competitive, creative, or just curious, there’s an entry point for every student.
Why it matters
After-school hours can be some of the most important in a student’s day. RecZone aims to make those hours structured, welcoming, and productive. The program gives students:
-
A safe space to relax with friends and meet new people

Skill-building opportunities (strategy in chess, coordination in table tennis, design in art)
-
Academic support through homework help
-
Service learning chances to contribute and log SSL hours
Teachers and staff say programs like RecZone help strengthen school culture by creating consistent, positive routines after the dismissal bell.
How to join
Just head to the cafeteria after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays and check in with RecZone staff. Activities run until 4:30 p.m. Schedules and offerings may vary by day, so keep an eye on posted flyers and announcements.
Tip: Some SSL opportunities have specific requirements. Be sure to read the directions carefully at the activity table and keep any proof-of-participation documents until hours are posted.
