As the school year comes to an end, there are many milestones and celebrations that are near. One really important event in American high schools are the end of the year “Prom!” This event is to be considered of the most memorable experiences in your time spent in high school. It’s like a celebration for the end of your high school life. It gives a sense of closure for you, your friends, and the staff you have seen for the past four years. It’s the one of the last dances you have being a high schooler.
On May 9th, Springbrook hosted its “Starry Night” prom for seniors at University Of Maryland, Riggs Alumni Center. Inspired by Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” painting. Students entered the alumni center to see an overall blue starry theme with decorations such as glowing balloons and a blue starry backdrop to take pictures in. The dancefloor area was nicely decorated with dark blue table covers, silver chairs, silver star cutouts, light up balloons, and blue lights shining down on us. There was lots of efforts put into the decorations, and it was definitely visible.
The night began with a funny start. A smoke machine was set up in the lobby of the Alumni Center but unfortunately, this smoke machine set off the smoke alarm and ultimately the fire alarm which took a long time to turn off. Regardless of the incident, the night continued on.
Students took on amazing outfits, some wearing silk outfits while others wore sequin and satin outfits that fit the “Starry Night” theme, making for beautiful pictures and an even more beautiful prom.
The food consisted of hamburgers, quesadillas, egg rolls, and many more delicious menu items. Seniors not only enjoyed the food but also had a fun time on the dance floor, getting to listen to popular and nostalgic songs that they requested to be played.

There were many teachers present at the prom such as our 2025 leaders, Ms. Nabinett and Ms. Campbell who did a wonderful job of hosting the event. If you see them in the halls, make sure to give them your thanks!
