The Student Government Association (SGA) is a vital part of Springbrook High School. Have you ever been to a pep-rally, participated in spirit week, or gone to a Homecoming dance? If so, then you’ve seen a few of the activities that the SGA plays a major role in organizing. The SGA is an school-sponsored organization run by student representatives. It helps plan events, raise funds, and addresses student concerns with staff.
The SGA plays a pivotal role in giving students a voice at Springbrook. If you’re interested in being a part of it, then you should be preparing for next year’s election. During the previous two school years, students have received an email, as well as a synergy message, signifying that SGA applications are open during March.
There are 6 elected class officers that carry out sga duties: the president, first vice president, second vice president, treasurer, recording secretary and corresponding secretary. Each position plays a distinct, yet important, role in advocating for student interests.
Springbrook’s current SGA president Leoul says that, “Springbrook needs a president who can listen to your concerns, advocate for your issues, provide for your needs, and make the change that you need to happen, actually happen.” In his campaign video, Leoul outlined several key goals he wants to achieve next school year. By introducing spirit weeks for Hispanic Heritage Month and Black History Month as well by bringing back International Night, he aims to increase school spirit. Additionally, he plans on granting free entrance to student athletes for sports events in order to increase student turnout.
To increase clear communication, he intends on expanding language translation options, adding monthly updates to the morning announcements, and pushing for an SGA specific portion of the weekly digest. Furthermore, he also aims to organize a more efficient calendar of student opportunities. Leoul also plans to frequently use polls, surveys, open SGA meetings, and anonymous forms in order to increase student voice.
Finally, He aims to increase school funding by applying for grants from the county and statewide governments and streamlining the process for creating new clubs.
Students at Springbrook High School would not be represented in the way they are now without the SGA. It’s important that you remember that school-sponsored events, fundraisers, and activities don’t happen on their own. They need to be properly planned and executed by groups like the SGA
