With fall coming to an end, the air gets crisper and the sun gives us a goodnight earlier as the trees shed their leaves. The breeze and warm festivities make fall, fall. It’s the perfect time to light candles, sip apple cider, and most of all, snuggle up in a blanket and watch a movie.
“O Captain! My Captain!”
Released in June of 1989, Dead Poets Society quickly came to be a critical success among film enthusiasts. With its warm colored, cozy coming of age story, the film directed by Peter Weir, starring Robin Williams, Ethan Hawke, and Robert Sean Leonard, became fall classic. The movie centers around a group of young boys who attend a prestigious and highly looked upon school, however, they don’t have a passion for education. That is until a new English teacher, John Keating is introduced. With his unconventional teaching skills, the boys begin to break out of their shells and the audience watches as liberation fills their lives. Through poetry, their hearts open up to the endless possibilities of life.
Though the movie is overall inspiring and encouraging, with the famous quote “Carpe Diem ”, meaning seize the day, there is also a note of melancholy. The movie highlights the struggles of the boys and how they navigate them.
