Tran finishes his career on top
Senior Quy Tran finished off his wrestling career at Springbrook on Saturday, March 8 with a fourth place finish in the state tournament at the University of Maryland. The tournament was held at the historic Cole Field House and wrestlers from across the state competed in their last matches of the season.
At the tournament, Tran established himself as one of the best wrestlers in the state. His journey to the top has been a long and hard one but all his hard work finally paid off at the tournament.
“It feels pretty good. Going from some random JV kid freshman year, to being 4th in the state. Like Drake said, ‘I started from the bottom and now I’m here,’ ” Tran said when asked about his 4th place finish at states.
Tran concluded his senior season with a record of 32-10 and a career record of 91-16. Tran has definitely had a successful career at Springbrook, compiling many wins and many memories along the way.
“My best moments of my career were after every match getting my hand raised and stepping into the wrestling room grinding it out to get better everyday. As well as back in 2012 when we went undefeated,” Tran said.
Tran was a great example to many of the other wrestlers on the team, as many of them looked to him for wrestling strategies and advice.
“Quy is a great wrestler, whenever I have a question about something I always ask him and he always helps me out,” senior De’Andre Harrington said of Tran.
Tran has been on varsity all four years of his high school career and was a captain both his junior and senior year. This is a testament to his character and his ability to set an example for others.
“Quy showed us how to be successful in the wrestling program, and he definitely set an example for some of the younger guys,” junior Adib Afnan said of his teammate and close friend.
