Public displays of (negative) attention
Public displays of affection are usually accompanied by public reactions ranging from jealousy to disgust. Our reaction and opinion follow a similar range.
In several stairwells and isolated corners, there are couples that are sprawled all over each other to engage in inappropriate PDA. Some of these students block the stairwell, making it difficult for others to go to their destinations.
We find that any form of affection varying from hand-holding to quick kisses is acceptable in most cases. There must be, however, a limit to the amount of affection that students are permitted to display. Any act involving the exchange of saliva, such as making out, is socially unacceptable.
Despite the many security cameras located in most halls and corners, some lustful couples do not seem to let the surveillance interrupt their make-out sessions. Teachers are also not as aware of these situations since many are busy when classes are not in session. The absence of teacher-surveillance essentially and unfortunately gives these students the opportunity to take advantage of the one-hour lunch period as well as before and after school for PDA.
Although there is not much option for change regarding teacher unavailability, the administration should make an announcement to warn students about the consequences for such public displays of affection. To enforce policies, they could emphasize the use of the surveillance cameras to discourage couples from engaging in extreme displays of affection in school zones.
To the students that take part in such lewd activities, if it is something that you will not do in front of your parents, please do not do it at school. It is not only your parents that would feel uncomfortable at the sight of such actions.
