These are the people who started the Springbrook “Love Trumps Hate” walk-out on Nov. 15: Chloe Yetter, Nahom Nega, Monica Joseph, Jackie Kestner, Vinod Swaminathan, and Anna Tsao. They also call themselves the  “Moco Liberals”, an anti-hate movement group  from Montgomery County from schools across the county.

When asked if they thought that the walkout was a success they were all quick to answer yes.

“There were more people than we ever expected. And even during the walk out there was a guy who was driving past and stuck his middle finger up while driving past. But everyone held up hearts at him and said we love you. That had to be one of the best moments,” senior Jacquelyn Kestner said.

Tyla Holoman added on by saying that  when they met up with Blake High School was the best moment.

So what made them call themselves the Moco Liberals? Member Jackie Kestner said that they came up with the name because they wanted the group to reach far beyond Springbrook; and the walkout is just the start of the movement.

The group also plans on attending the Inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump to participate in the demonstrative act called “Turn Your Back On Trump.”

“ It’s basically a passive act of where Donald Trump gives his acceptance speech, and people turn their back saying we won’t stand for any hateful rhetoric of any kind,” Monica Joseph said.

The group also plans to participate in the Million Woman March.

With most of the Moco Liberals graduating this year they also plan on passing the torch next year to upcoming seniors. They have not decided on who yet. Maybe you will be the next Moco Liberal??
