Drama Club Has Its Head in the Game

On March 13 the Springbrook Drama Club premiered its production of Disney’s High School Musical. Despite missing 30 hours of rehearsal, the play was a huge success. Lead roles Gabriella Montez and Troy Bolton were played by juniors Mellie Mesfin and Yunisa Sesay in a truly amazing show of acting and singing. The audience responded positively to the obvious chemistry between the two actors. “You can see the connection between the two [main] actors. It was very touching,” administrator Daniel Garcia said. Seniors Zoe Braddock and Moses Hernandez blew the audience away with their realistic performance of twin students, Sharpay and Ryan Evans. “The play was much better than I [had] expected.” senior Jaylla Brown said. But the actors were not the only ones who made this show a success. The stage crew played a big part. With the frequent change of scenery, the different props needed, and the pushing of the Wildcat announcement booth, the stage crew remained active throughout the show. The various sets were realistic and set the specific location of each scene very effectively. Apart from the minor technical difficulties with the sound from the microphones, the cast pulled through and the pace of the show was not affected. All of the vocalists performed well and the acting was great with almost no issues occurring during the show. “I thought it was funny when they kept trying to make the basket, but it wouldn’t go in,” said senior Dawit Tegegan. High School Musical was considered a hit among all who saw it, inside and out of the Springbrook community. “The play was great and anyone missing it, is missing a great show,” former Social Studies teacher Gary Frace said.
