Wifi hot-spots and not-spots

“Why does the WiFi suck so much?” Several students have been asking this question since the beginning of the school year. Schools across Montgomery County began to provide free WiFi to their students, teachers and guests starting this school year.
Since many students and staff members have been having trouble with the WiFi, staff from the newspaper conducted a test to see where the Internet speeds are the best and worst. The speeds in popular locations such as the cafeteria and Media Center were also tested. The maps above show which spots one should avoid (coldspots labeled with snowflakes) or flock to (hotspots labeled with flames) for optimal speeds.
Surprisingly, the Pit does not have a terrible connection. Despite being the lowermost floor of the school, there is still a good connection to the WiFi throughout the main hallway.
The Media Center, on the other hand, is a coldspot. Because the Media Center is in constant use all day long, the WiFi strength is expected to be lower than expected. However, when there is no traffic in the Media Center, the WiFi is very strong, depending on the location. The router is located near the main desk, so the connection becomes slightly weaker as you get further into the library.
In the C hallway on the third floor, WiFi speeds were very high due to the high number of computers located in the hallway. The large number of computers would require a strong connection when in use.
