Sophomore Catherine “Caytie” Johnson speeds past other competitors in the pool in Springbrook’s against Watkins Mill High School at Olney Swim Center; the girls lost a tough meet 75-95.

Few people know much about Springbrook’s swim and dive team, and even fewer know that sophomore swimming sensation Catherine Johnson has broken two individual records in her first two years as a Devil swimmer.

Coming in as a freshman with very high expectations, Johnson not only broke the Springbrook women’s 100 backstroke record with a time of 1 minute and 1 second, but also the women’s 50 freestyle record with a time of 24.20 seconds, this year. These meets are great for experience and team stuff. My first time going to a big meet was in eighth grade and the meet was with the team. It was loads of fun and I even got to go to Florida for the meet,” Johnson said.

In her first two years on the Devils’ swim team, the girls have struggled immensely, going 3-4 in the 2012-2013 season and having a mere
