The movie Insurgent is definitely a must see. The recently released film, Insurgent is the next chapter in the Divergent series, taking place in a post-apocalyptic version of Chicago. Following the previous movie, a war between factions and their ideologies grow. While trying to save the people she loves, the main character Beatrice “Tris” Prior played by Shailene Woodley faces questions of grief, forgiveness, identity, loyalty, politics and love. Book lovers know this series and came to love it. The action and adventure and the tough love that comes with it is one of the many reasons why and others who just watch the movies might find the plot confusing and weird. That’s why it’s always better to read the books before watching the movies.

The movie Insurgent didn’t necessarily meet the same standards as the first movie, Divergent, did but they still had a very successful franchise. Divergent $288,747,895 worldwide and the domestic total was $150,947,895. Insurgent, on the other hand, made $181,223,636 worldwide and the domestic total was $87,523,636. Many people went to see it opening weekend and the total for that was $52,263,680.

One of the many people that went to see it opening weekend was sophomore Samantha Jimenez. She went with her friends and she loved it.

“I think Insurgent over all was a very good movie, it just made me want to know more and go watch the next one,” Jimenez said.

Many fans said that the movie was better than what they expected but the reviews that the movie got from websites weren’t all that good.

According to the website Rotten Tomatoes, “Shailene Woodley gives it her all, but Insurgent is still a resounding step back for a franchise struggling to distinguish itself from the dystopian YA crowd.”

Rotten Tomatoes also gave it a 31% which is not great. The one thing critics and fans agree on are the actors that played the characters did a really good job.

“The actors and actresses in this movie have done many different roles and after watching this one I think that they all were perfect for the roles.” Jimenez said.

Many critics praised Shailene Woodley for her performance saying that she definitely played the part and also that Jennifer Lawrence wouldn’t have played it better because Woodley had this role down pat and she was very strong for it.

There is still more adventures and plot twists to come from this series that most fans that haven’t already read the book might find shocking. The big ending comes in the final scenes and sets up the two-part finale, Allegiant, scheduled for release in March 2016 and March 2017. I give this movie 5 Tridents and I recommend Insurgent to everyone who likes adventure and dystopian societies to watch and buy this film.
